The 7 Best Free Writing Tools You Will Love to Use

When I decided to start a blog, two things kept my interest levels very high. As you know, I have always loved image editing. I have talked about that quite often in my other blog posts. One more thing that always holds my attention is free writing tools.

I love experimenting with various online and offline writing tools and if you are a blogger and love to learn new apps/software this blog post will surely give you some exciting free writing tools for experimentation.

So check these out. Keep the best and forget the rest!

The 7 Best Free Writing Tools

  1. ZenPen:

This is a very simple text editor. No frills. All you get is a simple interface and you are ready to do your job.

It has no distraction which is very good for a blogger like me who gets easily distracted. It has some interesting features too. Do you want to insert a hyperlink or bold a word?

Just select the word and an option box pops up. Select the feature and you are done.

And if you have already decided on the word count of your blog post, say 1000 words, set it before you start typing. On the left-hand side, you will find 4 tiny options.

The third one is meant to set the word count.

  1. Headline Capitalization:

Headline Capitalization comes handy for me. As a non-native speaker, I find myself looking for a tool which will help me to decide which words to capitalize. If you are in the same boat, Headline Capitalization will help you decide.

Just copy the headline and paste it in the bar. And choose one of the options given below.

You will get your headline properly capitalized.

  1. Little Outliner 2:

This was previously known was Fargo. And no, it is not the movie I am talking about here. Little Outliner was called Fargo, only a few years back. But it went out of action in 2017 and in its place, we have the new online writer.

You need to have a Twitter account to get started with this one!

This online application is great for note-taking, jotting down ideas or simply to write an outline for your next blog post.

I would not recommend it for writing a complete blog post; it is not designed for that.

But, it can be a great free writing tool for all of us who are constantly on the move and need a simple, effective, and dependable tool for quick note-taking.

If a blog idea strikes you while sipping coffee, this is the tool to use to keep a note of that!

  1. WriteMonkey:

WriteMonkey is for those who get easily distracted (like me). It is a full-screen editor which covers the screen of your computer, thereby leaving you with your thoughts and the words you use to express them.

This free writing tool creates a completely distraction-free environment thereby helping you to concentrate.

It provides you with word counts, characters, sentences, and paragraphs.

It also has a built-in timer which keeps track of the amount of time you spend on writing your blog post.

  1. Google Keep:

Google Keep is a simplified version of Evernote. If you are using Evernote, Google Keep will be a very easy tool for you.
This free writing tool is used by bloggers to keep a note or write an outline for your blog post.

It has some attractive features to break the monotony of writing.

For example, you can change the background color of your notes, insert a picture, or add collaborators.

Adding collaborators is of help if you are working in a group. You can even set a reminder to take up the task at a later date.

It has a very simple and user-friendly interface.

  1. Draft:

Draft is an excellent online writing tool for bloggers who are looking for an alternative to Google Docs. Moreover, it has some useful features that make writing easy.

Once created you can export your document to Google Docs or save as a PDF or Word Format.

Draft makes sure that your formatted document is delivered to your email id.

Apart from that, you can add a footnote or insert an image.

This free writing tool gives you a bare minimum user-interface and you can use additional features by clicking the symbols on the left and the right sides.

I had written about some more writing tools in a previous blog post.

You can read about them here.

While reading an article I came across a comment where the person had mentioned that he writes his blog posts(!) on a smartphone.

Though I have never used my smartphones to write an entire blog post, still there are quite a few out there which will help you to scribble a few lines, save a paragraph which you can later expand into a complete blog post.

    Free Writing Tools: Moblie Apps

So here are some writing apps available for your Android smartphones.

  • Kingsoft Office: This is an excellent Office automation app available freely. It has a word processor, spreadsheet, PDF, and Presentation software.

This free app is an excellent addition to your device where you can read, edit, make a presentation and keep track of your invoice by using the spreadsheet.

  • Writer: A simple, user-friendly writing tool. Use this to keep notes, make a list, or jot down your ideas.

It is not meant for serious writing, but it can help you get things started.

  • JotterPad: This is a distraction-free, simple writing tool. It is perfect for writing small notes, poems, or short stories.

JotterPad includes word counts, snapshots, and dark themes. It gets connected to your cloud storage and you can write even when you are offline.

Here are some free writing tools that I have used and found helpful and interesting to work with.

What are the writing tools do you use to write/draft your blog post? Do you use a tool to take notes or use a notebook and pen?

Share your feedback and suggestions. 🙂 🙂

A super helpful post. I use many of these tools. However I don’t use Google Keep for outlining/drafting blog posts. I use Evernote for that. But since I already use Keep for small checklists and pointers etc, it might be simpler to move everything there. Thanks for that idea!
