6 Tested Ideas to Make an Awesome Blog Post

This is an interesting question. What really appeals to your audience? Is it the look and feel of your blog? Or, is it your engaging writing style? This could be it, but it actually requires a lot more than that. Writing a good blog post may attract visitors but will not retain them. There are few basic points you need to keep in mind when you start out on your blog.

Here are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself before you start your journey as a blogger. What is your blog about? Who is your target audience?

By this I mean, for whom are you writing? and what is your subject or niche? In this blog of mine, I write in two different niches: health and fitness and blogging. These are my niches. I did not choose these two because these are the hottest blogging topics. I chose because I am passionate about these two.

Choosing a niche: Choose something over which you have some idea. There are plenty of niches available for you to choose from. Here is a list to help you choose:

  1. Entertainment
  2. Fashion
  3. Blogging
  4. Product reviews
  5. Technology
  6. Health
  7. Current Affairs
  8. Sports
  9. Digital marketing
  10.  DIY tips

When you start a blog, pick a niche to write about. Pick a niche in which you have an expertise or an interest. Unless you are interested, it will not be easy for you to maintain a blog. Writing is all about passion and a blog post is no different.

Introduction: Make sure you have a compelling introduction to your blog post. The reader should know what the post is all about from the beginning. Keep it short, to-the-point.

A bulleted List: break up your blog post into readable short paragraphs, preferably with a bulleted list. Most of the readers are likely to run through your post looking for relevant information for themselves. A bulleted list helps them to find out what they are looking for.

Images/videos: “A picture says thousand words”, so the saying goes.  Make sure to include relevant pictures or video clips to make your post interesting. Many of us look for imagery to understand something complex and a picture simplifies it.

Relevant links: Put relevant links in your post. But there is a catch here. Do not overdo it. Too many links will spoil the information and the focus will be diluted. Add whatever is going to be helpful to your readers. For example, if you are writing about a recently launched smartphone, include a link to a gadget guru’s take on it.

Writing Style: no matter how good a subject matter expert you are, your post will not be appealing if it contains grammatical and syntax errors. Many readers get put off with such issues and most likely will not return to your blog. There are many tools i.e. www.Grammarly.com or www.Gingersoftware.com available online to check such errors. Take help of these if you are not very sure about the structure of your paragraphs. Make a plan. Think about the topics you can write about.

Guard against mistakes that many bloggers make in the beginning. Read the post:  blogging mistakes to know more. Never start a blog simply because you see everyone else is doing it or it is the new trend. Start a blog only when you feel you can add value to the niche you have selected.

Practice makes you perfect: Write. That is all I can say. Maybe not in the beginning, but if you are persistent, work at it diligently, one day you will be able to write effortlessly and produce excellent blog posts. All the bloggers started as novice one day, and it is only through writing consistently over a period of time they are where they are today.

If you are just planning to start out, read this. It will help you to guard against certain mistakes that many newbie bloggers make. Like everything else, blogging also requires patience and relentlessly pursuing your dream.
